Prisoner 650

A Pakistani Muslim woman had been held in the notorious Bagram Prison in Afghanistan for years and now her current whereabouts unknown. Have you heard about her? Most likely not. A Muslim woman is lingering in such a torturous jail and no alarms have gone off in her country or in any part of the Muslim world. How low have we, as an Ummah, stooped to not only allow such a thing to happen, but to be so oblivious about it?

Not much is known about her. Why is she there? What crime has she committed? She is a ghost prisoner. If not for eyewitnesses, such as the former Guantanamo Bay prisoner Moazzam Begg and interest raised about her case by journalist Yvonne Ridley, we wouldn’t have heard anything about her.

When some Jews dared to uncover a Muslim woman, it didn’t take long for the banners of the Muslim armies led by the Messenger himself to hover around their fortresses. They where defeated by the Muslim forces, and the entire Jewish Community, (not just the perpetrators) where driven out from Madina — all of them, down to the last man. This is how serious such a matter is.

Centuries later, a Muslim woman was taken prisoner by the Roman Army and called for help from the Abassid Khalifah of the time, al Mu’tasim. He immediately ordered a mobilization of forces and led those forces himself in an attack of Roman territory in response to the call of a single Muslim woman. The response to her plea from the Muslims of that time was the complete severance of diplomatic relations, and Declaration of War against the superpower of the time.

But today, no one knows or even seems to care about this woman who has disappeared into US custody for years.

The Messenger of Allah, as narrated in Sahih al Bukhari, said: “Release the prisoner.” It is a clear and direct order to Muslims until the end of time. The Scholars of Islam state that if a Muslim in the East is taken prisoner, it becomes mandatory on the Muslims of the West to seek his release, even if that would lead to them expending all of their wealth.

In addition to this sister being a prisoner, she is also a woman. Islam gives special protection for women and children, and the honor of the Muslim Ummah is in their protection of their women. The first ayah that allowed fighting in the path of Allah justified it for the defense of women, children, and the weak.

Allah says: And why should ye not fight in the cause of Allah and of those who, being weak, are ill-treated (and oppressed)?- Men, women, and children, whose cry is: “Our Lord! Rescue us from this town, whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from thee one who will protect; and raise for us from thee one who will help!” (al Nisa 75)

I pray to Allah to release our sister and all our brothers and sisters from the prisons of the tyrants.

As-salamu ‘alaykum,
I blame much of this on the absence of a leader - a righteous Khalifah. In the 2 examples mentioned - there was a clear leader in place, first the Messenger of Allah [s] and then al Mu’tasim. Where is our leader today? There is enough practising Muslims from amongst us to choose one so what are we waiting for?

“Our Lord!.. raise for us from thee one who will protect; and raise for us from thee one who will help!”

Ameen.

As Salamu Alaikum, Why, When leaders with military strength that rule over Muslim land see and know of such injustice happening they let it continue? Why do they stand by and let israel kill Palestinian babies and do nothing? Doesn’t their blood boil at such injustice to their fellow Muslims? Well my blood boils!
Who is protecting Palestine? Oh my brother in Islam! Ya Qassami! what hands inspired your good work? Who molded your spirit then set you free? your explosive words cannot be matched for when you die they come to life, and who is better at protecting Palestine and this Ummah?, Allah Knows best! Maybe Insha’Allah, when the youth of this Ummah deside to turn off the T.V., video games, ipod and Pick up the Qur’an we will see a breakthrough!

Please Brother Anwar can you advise us on what we can do for this sister and all the other brothers and sisters around the world? Othewise many of us will read this and remember it for a few seconds then forget. If I was her I dont think that I could take it, knowing that there are over a billion muslims in the world and everybodys just sitting and watchig this happen.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatulahi wa barakatuhu.
BY allah this ummah is in great pain. Have you not heard what ‘Abdur Rahman Ibn Amrah said when ‘Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz sent him to ransom the muslims being held in constantinople? He asked “O commander of the believers! What do you advise I do if they refuse to ransom one man for one man, what should I do?” He replied. “Then offer them another infidel.” Until he asked,”What if they demand four infidels for the release of one muslim?” He replied. “Give them whatever they want for the release of the muslims. For by Allah, by Allah! A single muslim is more beloved to me than all of the pagans which I hold captive. You are not just ransoming a muslim you have won even more; you are purchasing Islam”. Ya Allah Strengthen our hearts bless us with the victory and help us release our brothers & sisters from the infidels prisons.

As muslimah said, what are the PRACTICAL steps we can make? Alhamdulillah, many forces of reminders, examples from history and instilling of zeal have gone a long way. I think it is about time the practical approaches get the book and fill the skyes.

As Uthman Dan Fodio did, he preached for close to 30 years before he carried along. But during his time, he did it manually. Now, the internet has made what he will achieve in a year achievable in a month or less. Anyone thinking it is time?

Asalam alaykum,

What can we do brother Anwar? Should we start to petition on this woman’s behalf? How do we get more details? Perhaps this discussion (on this forum)of the woman in prison is a response to the dua she is making in her solitary confinement.

Let’s all make dua that Allah unites us all in helping those who are falsely imrisoned. I truly don’t know where to start. In the UK, we take part in petitions and get them sent to the Parliamentary authorities. I make dua Allah makes a way out for every oppressed individual. Ameen

As our Sister Yvonne Ridley had mentioned, the Mujaahideen of Afghanistan have talked about this Prisoner. In 2005, Labbayk Media released a documentary entitled, “Escape from Baghram Prison.” It was regarding the 4 Mujaahideen who escaped the notorious American prison in Baghram miraculously with the help of Allah. Shaykh Abu Yahya al-Libi said in the documentary,

And the story that I wanted to narrate; there is a woman from Pakistan. She stayed two complete years in solitary confinement in Bagram prison among more than 500 men. She goes out to the bathroom, led by the disbelieving, American infidel, placing his hand on one of her shoulders and the other hand on her back, and her hands and feet chained together, and she is treated exactly in the same way as a man, even in her clothing, the red suit that the brothers wear in Guantanamo and the Mujahideen in Bagram. This woman stayed there until she lost her mind, until she became insane, hitting the door and screaming day and night, and those ones all they do is make it worse by calling her by her number 650, that’s the number she had in the Bagram prison… “What’s the problem?” And she didn’t find a person to talk to. She is in solitary confinement, in front of her is a solitary room belonging to a man, on her side is a solitary room belonging to a man, and next to her is a solitary room belonging to a man. She didn’t find a woman to talk to, she only sees men, she only sees the adulteresses from the American army. So the woman lost her reasoning and mind and she stayed in this condition for two complete years, probably no one knew anything about her. Wa Laa Hawla Wa Laa Quwata Ilaa Billaah.

Salam Alaykum,

It amazes me that this ummah is unable to do anything about situations like this. Is it because we are underfunded…Is it because we don’t have enough Muslims? You look at some of they above posts and realize how important the life of just 1 Muslim is. Brother Anwar was a victim of something similar to this and thank Allah that he is out now. When I found out about your captivity brother Anwar I asked my local Mosque what there were doing about the situation and they responded that they do not get involved in these types of things! And in my opinion that is exactly what the problem of this Ummah is. Lack of action. We are more interested in sporting events and making money than helping our religion. And because of this lack of action attitude we are constantly being embarrased globally. It’s so bad that just being called a Muslim in the west will make people hate you. Look at Barrack Obama’s campaign…people were spreading rumors that he was a Muslim to HURT his image! And it is working! We are in a world today that thinks nothing but the worst of us. Maybe this is the way Allah will wake up his slaves to do the right thing. May the wrath of Allah be among the evildoers and May Allah bless this Ummah with a wake up call.

The examples you gave just sealed this issue shut. How can we sit back, and live in our air-conditioned homes and eat good meals and all, while million upon millions of our brothers and sisters suffer? We will be questioned about this sister and many other of our oppressed brethren in Islam. We can only pray that Allah forgives us for our obliviousness, and our abandonment of the cure to this problem which I’m sure any fan of Awlaki would know. ;)

Her family is threatened to such an extent that they keep their gates locked from outside, so nobody can visit them.

Ridley was captured by ‘barbaric’ talibans. She converted to Islam by thier behavior towards her.

Prisoner 650, probably Dr. Afia, is captured by ‘civilized’ ones, yet you see what happened to her.

Still, we should stick with what our faith says about our dealings with others. One can pray for others and invite them to look into Islam. For our own rulers, ….

noman on July 30th, 2008 at 8:27 pm #

We should protest on road bring it to media first because its not on media yet specially electronic media.
@Mujahid …brother its the weakness of our faith that we know that she is our sister and yet we are scared of coming out …if any muslim who knows about this case doesnt feel anything about it, then we are in our worst times.
But I have complete faith in Allah that sooner or later this barbarianism of so called super power will fall…like wall of sand.

Being a muslim, its our duty to protect our religion. I remember the Hadith of Prophet (peace be upon him). “There will be atime when non-muslim nations will call each other to kill muslims like some one calls others for eating delicious food. Sahabas asked, Yaa Rasulululah (peace be upon him), whether muslims will be in less number at that time. Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, no…. Muslims will be in a huge number but they will be useless like the foam of sea” Its true we love our lives and materialistic things, and hate death. We are useless. Brothers ans sisters.. Wake up. it is time to fight. Work hard to progress and beat the enemies by knowledge and unity.

Dear Sister Afia:
I on behalf of all your Pakistani- Muslim brothers am sorry for what happened to you and that is all we are up to. We don’t want to get mess-up with NATO and we Pakistan’s don’t have power to take stand in front of NATO countries.
We will write letter and pray for you and that is what we Muslims can do, as we are facing a two sided sword of Mullas Extremism and Liberalization. And sorry on behalf of our President (Musharraf) and our other lords who love London, Parris, USA. And can’t do anything as we are not in power to take stand in front of them.
Although you are from the Muslim ummah sister, whose past is glorified with Muhammad Bin Qasim, Tariq Bin Ziad, Pilot Officer Rahid Minhas But sorry that time Muslims were in power and they don’t have Offices, businesses and carrier to look at.
Sister we can just pray and write letter but we cannot come out on streets as we have lot of important work to do on Sundays and we have just one holiday and Sun will be hot, others will take part in it on my behalf and we have threat of Bomb Blast as well, we would like to die of Heart Attack in our cool air conditioned bed room. Sorry we can’t do anything.
Yes Talibanization is Religious Extremism But What happened with you is Justice as you are Muslim, Third world citizen and linked with Al Qaeda. We just thought about justice takes time in Pakistan but sorry Develop countries regime must also be forced to change like Saddam’s as it took 5 years and Prisoner No 650’s case is still pending.
Dear sister our hearts are dead and we are robots so we have nothing to do with you,
We will wait, watch and apply for immigration to get out of the fire that is spread around us, but sorry we didn’t heard about the torture you have faced. In the end “Sab Se Pahla Pakistan” and my dear sister you were the part of Al Qaeda so you deserve it. If some did wrong we punish him straight away. And you know that we are grateful that we barter you for FDI, F-16 and our Government.
And Ya Please All Pakistanis Must not be ashamed as we didn’t knew about you and just knew about you today.
In the end salute to us that after reading this message we are still waiting to do something and didn’t spread this message.
Salute To….
SAB SE PAHLA PAKISTAN
SAB SE PAHLA PAKISTAN ARMY
SAB SE PAHLA F-16, FDI
SAB SE PAHLA OUR SISTERS, BROTHERS AND NATO
Don’t be shameful, as what can we do?
Yes in a day our government statement will come that she is in foreign custody and we will bring her back…………………..!
Think about it. Please help me out to organize a demonstration in Karachi. Email me and get connected to throw away the veil of shamefulness and disgrace, leave mullas but at least become Muslim and Pakistani. We have nothing to do with politics so please no political party must contact us because now is the time to show strength of what we are just two hours to show up we are Muslims and Pakistanis are alive, we want things to get straight on table but if the others are not ready to do than we are…….!
This is a last try of life from a PAKISTANI to get united, rest is with you.
Lets give strength and glory to our selves as nation.

American officials said they had no knowledge of Ms. Siddiqui’s location for the past five years until July 17, when Ms. Siddiqui and a teenage boy were detained in Ghazni, Afghanistan, after local authorities became suspicious of their loitering outside the provincial governor’s compound.

This message is for the muppet Uzair

I am totally disgusted at your comment concerning our sister Aafia. “My dear sister you were the part of Al Qaeda so you deserve it”.
What if it was your blood sister? You probably would not care because you’re a sell out.
Admin please keep repulsive people like this off this blog with his derogatory comments.

AOA,

Thanks anwar for raising the issue in your blog for our sister.

we are guilty in one way or other but as Pakistani we share more portion of this, but as youth we are trying but our Govt. is of no use as they are one of the culprits and the way it is going it look like big parties were involved in it.

I have raise this issue on different Muslim groups on facebook specially Egyptian and Indonesian , i wrote message to their admin and randomly to the members but hardly any one came back and replied me or join the group.

May be they were thinking that this is a Pakistani issue or may they have any other grievance, but my question was they have the facebook group for Muslim when i as a Muslim request them to join us and help us none of them came back or replied to my scrap, so why they were using the name as Muslim name in group.

You can see these groups in my profile.

But while reading this I am quite relived that still WE ARE ALIVE.

I would like to request to all of you to join us on facebook and help us with your opinion and suggestion.

Once again I am requesting that we are missing your presence among us very badly do join us and bring your friends. Just remember Muslim are just like a body and we are missing our strength and specially Muslim like anwar who can write and be our communicator.

Thanks

as salamu alaikum,

unfortunately the real problem isn’t the west, or the hahood,

the real problem facing our ummah is the arab and ‘muslim’ leaders violating our rights. Guantanamo aside, there are muslims being held in muslim countries, by ‘muslim’ leaders.

stop blaming the world, stop blaming the kafar….the fight needs to start with these stupid leaders.

muslimah on August 18th, 2008 at 12:45 am #

the fight needs to start with ourselves. try to improve yourself before pointing your finger at govt, leaders, and whatnot.

Leaders of Al Muslim countries particularly the sitting heads of the state would love to shower rose petals on the bodies of the wife and daughters of FBI Chief Hoover for this great act in the history of mankind. The presidents/prime ministers/kings of all the muslim countries are in fact in the clutches of America.Hence no influence can be excercised on this level.Rest are just helpless people being controlled by these american dummies.Nobody in the Muslim world thinks like Dr.Martin Luther King.No one amoung the Muslim leadership today has a “dream”.No dream and nothing to come true.Life has become a joke for ordinary man in almost all islamic countries.Let us pray for the divine intervention. The divinity its own style of retaliation.
